Conversations with Breonna Simone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Breonna Simone
Hi Breonna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Breonna Simone essentially started off doing hair such as kinky twist & micro braids at the age of 7. My mother would do my hair and I knew it was too much for her especially since I was the only girl, so I made her life a bit easier by telling her “if you just buy the hair, I’d do it myself.” My mother is my biggest supporter she could’ve told me I didn’t know what I was doing but her trust created one of the best hairstylist of this generation and she didn’t know it at the time.
Fast forward to 2017, I founded The Lavished Hair as a sole proprietorship with the best grade of Indian hair. As my business thrived and grew I have never changed the quality of my hair, which is why The Lavished Hair is a fan favorite.
The year of 2024 I enrolled in cosmetology school at Aveda Institute to snowball my next project of opening my salon as a licensed cosmetologist. Although I am certified in lash extensions, lip fillers, brow lamination, and micro-links. Becoming a licensed cosmetologist will curate a one stop shop for The Lavished Hair, which is what I aspire to give to current and future clientele.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has not been a smooth road at all. Once I founded The Lavished Hair in 2017, I was learning as I grew. I wasn’t sure on what marketing tactics I would use or how I would get funding to maintain business expenses but I knew God began this journey for me to receive a greater reward. So I figured it out.. I often would spend endless nights/ early mornings awake- researching, watching videos, listening to podcasts to gain as much knowledge as I could within 24 hours.
I also struggled with balancing being a full-time college student as well as a business owner. At the time I thought I would be a pediatrician but 2023 I changed my major to a business major and began that process of receiving my Bachelor’s of Business on an entrepreneurial track, which I felt suited my brand a bit better.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a jack of all trades. As far as hair, I specialize in: wig install, sew-ins, quick-weaves, micro-link extensions, tape-in extensions, braided styles, bleaching and toning methods, foiling methods, and all natural hair styles.
I am also know as a certified pen technician in which I offer needle-less lip fillers. As well as a certified lash artist, makeup artist and brow specialist.
I am most proud of my resilience to become better and better every year. I learn a new skill and will continue learning it until I feel I am at the level to compete with surrounding entrepreneurs. I am hungry for success and am willing to work for it- this is what sets me apart from others. My resume is immaculate, not many have such as intense interest in the beauty industry like Breonna Simone.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was that overly optimistic and that smart child that you had to watch what you said around because they understood everything.. yep that was me. Keep in mind I was braiding my own hair at 7, using the mirror to part the back of my head to ensure my hairstyle looked as if I just left the salon.
From the mouth of my mother I was “vibrant and artistic”. I can draw very well. I would look at images around me and make 3-D drawings. I would often sketch fashion design ideas that I aspire to bring to live (I thought fashion designer was on my radar as well).
I also was “always ready for a challenge,” by the age of five I was fluent in Spanish and playing little league baseball on an all boys team. By the age of eight I was writing in Roman numerals and learning about the Roman Era, often in various plays at a school I attended once a week. By ten- I was learning to play the alto saxophone. By the age of twelve volleyball and basketball was introduced to me. At fifteen I started modeling for Barbizon modeling agency which was short-lived with my schedule. Nevertheless I’ve had a great experience growing up. I’m actually getting stimulated reliving my childhood, my brain has always been on let’s learn everything mode.
